Buckle up because this one is going to be a long one. I am purposely not editing or correcting any grammar because I really feel like it is spirit led and any editing I do after the fact might take away from that.
I don’t spend a lot of time talking about politics. I do have very strong views and I vote accordingly but I don’t let it control me to the point of having arguments with people I love. For some people politics are a huge part of their life and their testimony. I do believe that for those people it is part of their calling from God. For me, politics only plays a small role in my personal mission. This will probably be my only post about politics.
The question is: Does God have a place in politics?
For those of us who believe in Him which is apparently 62% of Americans. Yes He absolutely does. God is our creator and the creator of ALL things. He has a place in everything, everywhere but especially in how we run this world that He has created for us. We believe that this is His world and we just occupy it. We are given the task of caring for it. God is also our moral compass. Whether you believe in God and believe that The Bible is the living, breathing Word of God or you just believe that The Bible was written by men, is up to you. However, the values and morals of that book are a good thing. We need more honesty, integrity and love for our neighbors. I don’t see how anyone could claim the Bible is bad.
I know that there will be arguments about people who were killed for religion. Yes, JESUS himself was killed by religious people. Christianity isn’t about religion. It’s about a relationship.
There will be arguments about how the church has hurt people. The church isn’t God. The church is full of imperfect people. Some people in the church aren’t really followers of Christ. Those people are wolves in sheep’s clothing. People hurt people- not the church. If you have had a bad religious experience, it wasn’t God. It was people.
There will be arguments about if God is so great why does He allow bad things to happen? God allows free will. True love isn’t forced. God doesn’t force us to love Him. He gives us the choice. God doesn’t strong arm us into doing what He wants us to do. He gives us a choice. The world is corrupt, God is pure. For now, until God calls us home, we live in a corrupt world full of selfish, imperfect, sinful people. Bad things happen. The more we force God out of everything, the more bad things happen. God is good gracious and merciful and those who truly know Him produce good fruit. They aren’t perfect, but for the most part they do good. There are plenty of people who claim to know God, yet still do a lot of bad things. There are people who don’t know God who still do good things. For those of us who believe, we know that this world is temporary. It is not our home. Death isn’t the worst thing that can happen. When we die, IF we know God, we will enter into His Kingdom that has no sin, no pain and no sorrow. If you don’t know God, you will enter into a place of eternal damnation and pain. A place that you can’t even imagine.
Ofcourse there will be arguments that say : If He’s so good, why would He allow people to go to hell? Well the simple answer is, He doesn’t want anyone to go to Hell. He gives us all a choice. He gives us plenty of warnings. He begs and pleads for us to turn to Him. Instead of heeding these warnings and turning to Him, the world wants to exclude Him from everything. They say He has no place in the government, in schools, or really anywhere. They want separation from God. They don’t want to know God. They accuse Him of making mistakes. They deny His truth. They kill His children. They call them a clump of cells. They worship other Gods. They slander His name. They take the beautiful things that He created and they destroy them. They deny His existence. If someone treated you like that, would you invite them into your home? Yet He continually stands at your door and knocks, and you don’t let Him in. He continually sends messengers to invite you into a relationship with Him and you laugh and say no thanks. You continually say “my body, my choice” You have made yourselves your own God.
God is preserving Heaven for those who accept and love Him. Just like you preserve your home for those who accept and love you. Some of you have disowned family and friends with different political views than you and refuse to be in the same room with them. Yet you think God is bad for only allowing people who believe in Him into heaven means He isn’t good. Let us not forget that Satan was once in Heaven. God loved him. He was given a high honor, then Satan filled with jealousy and envy wanted to make himself God. He corrupted Heaven with sin, lies and rebellion. God removed him and he took some angels with him. He can’t let that back into Heaven. He has to be very careful who he chooses to occupy Heaven.
Before Satans rebellion, everything was perfect. Before the devil tricked Adam and Eve into sinning the world was perfect. This world has fallen from grace because of Satan. Not because of God. A lot of people are still blaming God. God’s vision is peace, love, happiness, purity and light . Satan’s vision is lies, destruction, murder and darkness. There are only 2 sides. There are only 2 places. Darkness or light. Heaven or Hell. We are all given the choice. You can’t stand in the middle. You have to make a choice. If you don’t choose God, the only other option is hell.
Non believers paint a dark picture that believer’s whole purpose in life is for Jesus to come and end the world. Their picture in their heads is destruction of the earth. It’s not quite that simple. We see the corruption in the world and yes we long for heaven. A perfect world where there is no corruption. However, we are not hoping for it to end soon. We want to make heaven crowded. We want as many people as possible to turn their hearts to Jesus so they can come with us. We want Jesus to tarry so more can come to know him.
We want God in our government, in our homes and on our tvs because we know that His way is better. We know that He is love and grace. We know that the enemy is hate, violence and sin. The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. God has come to bring peace, joy and love. We vote for policies that align with God’s Word and make the world a better place. We speak loudly about our beliefs not out of hate or judgement but out of love. We preach the gospel in hopes that all of the people we love will come to know Him. We want Him in government, in schools, on the mountain tops and in the valleys so that everyone has a chance to know Him.
God tells us that we are His beautiful
Creation made in his image. That our bodies all shapes, sizes and colors are beautiful just the way they are. That we are made to go together and create more life. He teaches us that sex is beautiful and much more enjoyable when we use it the way God designed its use. He teaches us that marriage is beautiful and we need each other. He designed males and females in the most beautiful way. We are meant to be partners. We each have different strengths and weaknesses that complement each other and are designed to work together to build our lives. Neither of us are less than the other. We are different but equal each with our own purpose. He gave each of us our own unique gifts and talents to make our mark on the world and fulfill our purpose.
We see that if you remove God from everything, sin runs rampant. That gives Satan full reign. The devil makes a very compelling case to the non believer. He makes us believe that selfish pleasures, money and living a guilt free life is true freedom. It’s your life and your body. You shouldn’t be told what to do with your body. Sex feels good. You should be able to have it as much as you want, with who you want. If you aren’t ready to have a baby, you don’t have to. Just get an abortion. If you don’t love the body you are in, you can change it to be whatever you want it to be. You are your own master. All the while, you don’t even realize that you are not your own master. You are a slave to the devil. You are a slave to sin. He has corrupted the minds of many.
We no longer hold marriage as sacred. We no longer treat each other with respect. Instead we use and abuse one another. We are selfish and only care about our own lusts and pleasures. You are being controlled. You are told that this life is all there is. There’s nothing after so you might as well enjoy it while you can. Why would the devil tell you about hell? If you knew it was real, nobody would want to go there. You would do everything you can to stay out of there. We are being divided and told to hate each other. Which has been the devil’s plan all along. You may enjoy pleasure for a little while, but it always comes at a cost. All the things that the devil is telling you is ok, leads to self destruction, loneliness, turmoil and eventually death. Death isn’t the end. If death were the end, it wouldn’t be a big deal. That’s why the devil convinces you that death is the end. But what if you are wrong? What if eternity is real? What if Heaven and Hell are real? If you reject God and follow the devil, You will spend an eternity in the darkest, most painful place, unable to escape.
If I’m wrong, I lived a life filled with hope and love for a better place. I will just go to sleep and never know that I was wrong. What harm was done?
As believers, we KNOW Heaven is real and we know the end of the story. We know that God wins. We know that Heaven awaits. We know that life as God designed it is so much better than selfish desires. We know we are on the right side of the fight. We want Everyone else to be on the right side as well. We don’t want anyone to suffer. So we try to make a change in the world, we vote for policies that honor God and align with his Word. We want God in our government. We want God everywhere so we can drown out the devil and his power.
We don’t judge your sin and think you are a bad person that deserves hell. We don’t look forward to your destruction. We know we are all sinful people and it is only by the grace of God that we are saved. We love you. We know you are fooled by the devil’s lies and we want so desperately for you to come to the light. We want you to love the body you were born in. Your body is perfect just the way it is. The devil is the one telling you it isn’t. God loves you, even though you are a sinner that sometimes makes bad choices. He sent His son to pay for your sins. You are never too far gone. The devil is the one who tells you that you are. God whispers “my child, come home, I will help you, I will wash you and make you clean” while the devil screams “ you are filthy, unloveable, and have no place to call home” God wants to give you a family. The devil wants to make you feel isolated. God wants to give you peace. The devil wants to fill you with rage. God wants to give you love. The devil wants to fill you with hate. He wants you to think that people who disagree with you, hate you.
I don’t vote straight Democrat or Republican. I don’t pledge allegiance to any political party. I vote policies that align with my faith. Rightnow I MOSTLY align with conservatives. I don’t worship any political figure. I only worship God. I don’t think that every word that comes out of any politicians mouth is true or good. I don’t believe that any politician is completely right. I don’t believe that everyone on the other side is evil. I don’t hate anyone. I don’t judge people on their political views, sexual orientation, race or even their religious views. I love all people and I pray that one day you will love my God. However, God is the most important thing in my life. I must vote for what I believe most aligns with His word. That is my own personal conviction. It doesn’t mean I think the politician is great. I just think their policies are better for my convictions. You can all feel free to vote as you feel you should and I don’t hate you for it. You don’t have to agree with me. We can agree to disagree and still value each other. Even though the world seems to be trying to put us on this one mind, one side system
My final point- The argument that The separation of church and state means that God shouldn’t be in the government is so far off base. People believe that putting God in the government is unconstitutional.
First I will say this – The church isn’t God.
Before we declared our independence from England, The Catholic Church was in control of everything. You had to pledge allegiance to the Catholic Church. Our founders didn’t believe that you should be told what church you had to go to. There are many different denominations of churches with in the Christian faith. Our country was founded by Christians. One nation UNDER GOD. Our forefathers knew that Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. Our forefathers knew that Jesus is The Light of The World and without Him there is darkness. They knew that we need Jesus. United we stand and divided we fall. They believed that all denominations of Christianity were good. The source of it all is Jesus but disagreements on what church had it right, caused division. So, they said that our nation would allow us to choose which church we wanted to go to. We have freedom to choose which church we go to, or even whether or not we go at all. Actually in the beginning every politician had to have a decree of faith. It didn’t matter what faith. They just had to have a faith because our founders believed that a man without faith is a man without morals. A man without faith is a man without honesty or integrity.
Freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion. It doesn’t mean religion has no place. It just means you have a choice. Sadly in many countries today people still don’t have a choice. They must align with the religion that their country chooses. All other religions are illegal. We live in America where you get to choose what religion you support, or to have no religion at all. That doesn’t mean that we should take God out of our government, out of our schools, off of our money. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to pray publicly at government events. It just means that you don’t have to participate in that prayer. It doesn’t mean that the Bible isn’t allowed in government offices. It just means you don’t have to have one if you don’t want one. I could argue that since we’ve started trying to take God out of everything, everything has gotten worse. There’s more violence, more drugs, more crime, and more hate.
What I really don’t understand about the whole ordeal is: If these people don’t believe there is a God, why are they so hellbent on taking His name out of everything? If He isn’t real, His name doesn’t mean anything. Why are they so offended? Why do they care what I believe? Why do they care if we openly pray to a God that doesn’t exist or have any power?
I believe God absolutely has a place in politics and in everything that we do. If they ever succeed and fully remove Him from everything, our nation will fall. We have already come so far from where we used to be. Yet, I still believe that God has blessed America. We are still the greatest and most free country in the world.
